Terms of service.
By using yolo. you agree to these terms. They cover what we provide, what you can post, how money flows when you book a trip, who's responsible when things go wrong, and how disputes get resolved. We've kept them as plain as we can — if any of this feels ambiguous, email hello@codeop.io and we'll explain.

Who you're agreeing with
"yolo." (sometimes "we", "us", "our") refers to Code Op (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in the Republic of South Africa with its registered office in Cape Town. Code Op publishes the yolo. app on iOS and Android and operates the services at yolo-app.io and admin.yolo-app.io.
"You" means the human using yolo. with an account. These terms are a contract between Code Op (Pty) Ltd and you, the user.
Acceptance & eligibility
By creating an account or otherwise using yolo., you accept these terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Community Guidelines. If you don't accept, don't use the service.
Age
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- In the European Union, the minimum age is the GDPR digital-consent age in your country — typically 16, sometimes lower depending on your member state.
- In South Africa, users under 18 require parental consent under POPIA section 35.
- If we determine an account belongs to someone under the applicable age, we will terminate it and delete the underlying data within 14 days.
Where you live
yolo. is operated from South Africa and may not be available in every country. Use of the service from a country where it is restricted by local law is at your own risk. You are responsible for compliance with the laws of your location.
Your account
- One account per person. We may terminate duplicate accounts.
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials (Apple ID, Google account) and your devices secure.
- You must not share your account with anyone else, or let anyone else post under your handle.
- Provide accurate information when setting up your profile. Impersonating another person, brand, or institution is a violation (see Content rules).
- Accounts are not transferable. If you stop using yolo., delete the account — don't sell or gift it.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings. See the Privacy Policy for the deletion cascade.
What yolo. is (and isn't)
What it is
yolo. is a social bucket-list app. You keep a list of things you want to do, you post moments when you actually do them, and you share them with the people you choose — from your Inner ring of family up to the full Public internet. The Discover tab surfaces ideas (AI-generated and editorially curated). Stays and Flights tabs let you turn an idea into a real booking through our travel partners.
What it isn't
- yolo. is not a travel agency. We facilitate bookings through third-party providers — see Bookings.
- yolo. is not a place for adult content. See Content rules.
- yolo. is not a substitute for medical, legal, financial, or any other professional advice. The Discover constellations are AI-generated suggestions and may contain errors. Verify anything important before you act on it.
- yolo. is not an emergency service. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services. If you or someone you know is in crisis, see resources at the bottom of the Community Guidelines.
License to use the service
Subject to your compliance with these terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the yolo. app on devices you own or control, and to use the service for your own non-commercial purposes.
What you must not do
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app or attempt to extract our source code, except to the limited extent the law expressly permits.
- Scrape, crawl, or systematically harvest content from yolo., including via the API. The API is for our first-party clients only.
- Build automated bots that post, follow, message, or react. Genuine engagement only.
- Attempt to bypass App Attest, Play Integrity, the audience picker, rate limits, or any other access control.
- Use yolo. to send unsolicited promotional content, including in DMs.
- Build a competing service using data extracted from yolo.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our systems except through the responsible-disclosure process at security@codeop.io.
Your content
You own your stuff
You retain all rights, title, and interest in the content you post — photos, captions, bucket entries, comments, messages, the lot. yolo. doesn't claim ownership over anything you create.
The licence you grant us
To run the service for you, we need a licence to host and deliver your content. By posting content on yolo., you grant Code Op (Pty) Ltd a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to:
- Host, store, cache, reproduce, and transmit your content to the audience you chose;
- Reformat or resize it for technical compatibility (e.g. generating smaller image thumbnails);
- Use it within the yolo. interface and in share-link previews (Open Graph cards) so that links to your public posts render correctly on other platforms;
- Surface it within the app — public posts in feeds, discover surfaces, search.
This licence ends when you delete the content or the account, with two narrow carve-outs:
- Copies cached in CDNs or held in backup archives may persist for up to 90 days while they age out.
- Content already shared by someone else (e.g. screenshotted off-platform) is out of our reach.
We do not use your content to train third-party AI models. We do not pipe public posts into LLM training pipelines, including our own.
You're responsible for what you post
You represent that you have all necessary rights to the content you post — including the right to share any photos of other people, and the rights to any music or media included. If a copyright holder issues a valid DMCA takedown, we will take down the content (see DMCA).
Encryption is not a workaround
Direct messages and YOLOs shared to your Close or Inner rings are end-to-end encrypted (see Privacy). The fact that we cannot read those messages does NOT exempt them from the content rules below. Reports of E2E content remain valid; we act on the report and on any decrypted evidence the reporter provides.
Content rules & prohibited use
The following are prohibited regardless of audience setting (Public, Followers, Friends Circle, Close, Inner, even Only-Me bucket entries that you happen to share later). We remove this content on report and may suspend or terminate accounts.
No adult content of any kind
No nudity, no sexually explicit imagery, no sexually suggestive content, no fetish content, no solicitation. This applies to YOLOs, bucket entries, profile photos, captions, comments, direct messages, and audience-restricted content alike.
No content involving minors in any sexual or exploitative way
Zero tolerance. Such content is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the US and to the relevant authorities in the user's jurisdiction. The account is terminated and the underlying data preserved as required by law for cooperation with law enforcement.
No harm to people, animals, or property
- No threats of violence (real-world or online).
- No harassment, stalking, doxxing, or coordinated pile-ons.
- No content that glorifies, plans, or facilitates violence.
- No content depicting or encouraging animal cruelty.
- No content that endangers another person's safety (e.g. "swatting" calls, dangerous pranks involving non-consenting bystanders).
No self-harm or eating-disorder promotion
Educational, recovery, or first-person reflection on lived experience is allowed. Content that promotes, glamorises, or instructs others in self-harm or restrictive eating is not. If you are in crisis, see the resources at the end of the Community Guidelines.
No hate speech or discrimination
Content that attacks, dehumanises, or incites violence against people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, disability, or serious disease is removed.
No promotion of illicit substances
Don't post content that depicts, promotes, glorifies, or facilitates the use, sale, or production of illegal drugs. A glass of wine at dinner is fine. The line is "promotion or facilitation of illegal substances".
No illegal content
Anything illegal under the laws applicable to you or to Code Op (Pty) Ltd: weapons trafficking, human trafficking, fraud, financial scams, intellectual-property theft, malware, counterfeit goods, illegal gambling, sanctions violations.
No spam, scams, or fraud
- No mass-posting of the same content. No follow-for-follow rings. No automated engagement.
- No phishing, no fake-airdrop crypto pitches, no romance scams, no investment "opportunities" in DMs.
- No fake reviews or astroturfed enthusiasm for products.
No impersonation
Don't pretend to be someone else — another individual, a brand, a public figure, a yolo. employee. Parody accounts are allowed if clearly labelled as such in the display name AND the bio.
No misleading content
- No fabricated achievements (claiming to have done something you didn't).
- No deepfakes or manipulated media presented as real, especially involving identifiable people.
- No coordinated misinformation campaigns.
Respect other people's privacy
- Don't post other people's private information (home addresses, phone numbers, ID numbers, etc.) without their consent.
- Don't post intimate images of other people without their explicit consent — even if the images aren't sexually explicit.
- If you tag someone in a YOLO and they ask you to remove the tag, remove it.
Age-restricted content
Some content is legal but only appropriate for adults — alcohol, tobacco, gambling, similar. You are responsible for ensuring such content reaches only audiences for whom it is age-appropriate in your jurisdiction. The audience picker (Inner / Close / Friends Circle / Followers / Public) lets you scope per-YOLO; use it.
If you post age-restricted content with a Public audience and a minor sees it, that's on you. We may add specific gating in future versions; in the meantime, common sense applies.
Reporting, moderation, suspensions
How to report
From inside the app: tap the ••• on any YOLO, profile, message, or comment, choose Report, pick a reason. From outside the app: email safety@codeop.io. For urgent situations involving immediate danger to a person, contact your local emergency services first.
What happens next
- Reports are reviewed by our trust & safety team.
- High-severity reports (minor safety, self-harm, threats of violence) are triaged within hours.
- Clear violations are removed and the account that posted them receives a strike (see Enforcement ladder below).
- Ambiguous cases get a closer look; we may need to ask you for more context.
- The target of a report is never told who reported them.
Enforcement ladder
For non-severe violations:
- First violation
- Content removed. In-app warning. No restriction on the account.
- Second within 90 days
- Content removed. 24-hour read-only restriction (can browse, cannot post or message).
- Third within 90 days
- Content removed. 7-day suspension. Account is hidden from feeds during suspension.
- Severe / repeated
- Indefinite suspension or termination. Future signups associated with the same email or device may be blocked.
For severe violations (CSAM, doxxing, credible threats of violence, coordinated harassment), the ladder is bypassed: termination is immediate, content is preserved as required for law enforcement cooperation, and we may block future signups from the same identifiers.
Suspensions
If we suspend your account, we will tell you why and how to appeal. While suspended, your account is signed out across devices and your Firebase Auth user is disabled, which means you cannot use the API or sign back in until the suspension is lifted.
Appeals
You can appeal any moderation action by emailing appeals@codeop.io within 30 days of the action. Appeals are reviewed by someone other than the original moderator. We aim to respond within 5 business days. The appeal decision is final at the platform level; you retain whatever rights you have under your local law.
Bookings (Stays, Flights, Activities)
When you book a stay, flight, or activity through yolo., the booking is between you and the underlying travel provider — not yolo. yolo. acts as an authorised intermediary that connects you to the provider.
Who the provider is
- Flights — provided by Duffel Travel Ltd, who arranges your booking with the operating airline.
- Stays — provided by Nuitée Travel SA (LiteAPI), operating as the merchant of record.
- Activities — provider will be disclosed at booking time if/when the activities channel launches.
What you agree when you book
- The terms and conditions of the underlying provider apply to your booking. We display them before you confirm.
- The price displayed includes (a) the provider's price and (b) yolo.'s service margin, where applicable. We disclose any service fee in the booking summary before you pay.
- Prices can change between search and book — we re-quote at the prebook step and you confirm the final price before payment.
- Cancellation, refund, change, and "no show" policies are the provider's. Read them.
- You are responsible for any travel requirements: valid passport, visas, vaccinations, insurance. yolo. does not provide travel insurance.
- You confirm that the passenger / guest details you provide are accurate. We pass them to the provider verbatim.
When something goes wrong
- For schedule changes, cancellations by the provider, refund disputes, or service quality issues, the first point of contact is the provider (booking reference will be in your "My Bookings" screen).
- If the provider's support fails you, contact bookings@codeop.io and we'll do what we can to escalate.
- If the issue is on yolo.'s side (e.g. wrong currency conversion, double charge), email bookings@codeop.io.
Currency & FX
Bookings are settled in the provider's transaction currency. We display prices in your preferred currency (Settings → Region) using the rate at the moment of display, with a modest FX cushion to absorb rate movement between display and settlement. The settlement currency and amount appear on your booking confirmation; any FX difference between display and settlement is on us, not you.
Payments, refunds, currency
Payments are processed by Paystack, our payment gateway. We never see your full card number; Paystack stores the payment instrument and provides us a token for charges. Receipts are emailed by Paystack and the underlying provider.
Refunds, where the provider's policy permits them, are processed back to the original payment method, typically within 5–10 business days depending on your bank.
Chargebacks: please contact us before initiating a chargeback so we can resolve the underlying issue. Unilateral chargebacks may result in account suspension if we determine the charge was legitimate.
Affiliate disclosures
yolo. earns a commission on bookings made through its Stays, Flights, and Activities flows. This commission does not affect the price you pay relative to booking direct with the provider — providers extend a wholesale rate to us, and we surface a competitive consumer price plus our service margin.
Some Discover constellations and editorial Picks may incorporate affiliate-tagged links to third-party sites. Where they do, the link card is labelled accordingly.
Intellectual property & DMCA
Ours
The "yolo." name, logo, "y." wordmark, the polaroid visual language, all rendered designs, the app source code, the server source code, and all related materials are © Code Op (Pty) Ltd. You may not use any of these in a commercial context, in a way that suggests endorsement, or in a way likely to confuse users as to source — unless you've been granted permission in writing.

DMCA / copyright takedowns
If you believe content on yolo. infringes your copyright, send a DMCA takedown notice to dmca@codeop.io. Include:
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed
- Identification of the infringing material (URL, screenshot, or post ID)
- Your contact info: name, address, telephone, email
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and you are authorised to act on behalf of the owner
- Your physical or electronic signature
If we remove your content under a DMCA notice and you believe it was wrong, you may file a counter-notification at the same email. We follow the standard 17 U.S.C. § 512 process.
Repeat copyright infringers will have their accounts terminated per our policy under § 512(i).
Paid features & subscriptions
yolo. is free to use at launch. We may introduce paid features (a "Pro" tier or one-off purchases) in future versions. When we do:
- Prices will be disclosed before purchase, in your currency, including any applicable taxes (e.g. VAT in the EU, ZAR VAT in South Africa).
- Subscriptions on iOS are billed by Apple via the App Store. Cancellation is via your Apple ID's subscription settings; we do not control Apple's billing.
- Subscriptions on Android are billed by Google Play. Cancellation is via your Google account's subscription settings.
- Free trials, where offered, convert to paid at the end of the trial unless cancelled.
- Refund policy follows the platform's (Apple's or Google's) for store purchases; for any direct purchases, we offer a 14-day cooling-off period where required by EU consumer law.
Termination
By you
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account. See Privacy for the deletion cascade.
By us
- For cause — we may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you violate these terms, the Community Guidelines, or any law.
- Without cause — we may terminate your account or discontinue the service with at least 30 days' notice, except where immediate termination is required (e.g. to prevent harm).
Effects of termination
- Your access to the service ends.
- Your content is deleted per the retention schedule in the Privacy Policy.
- Any outstanding paid balance is refunded prorated where the law requires; otherwise non-refundable.
- Provisions of these terms that by their nature survive termination (license grants in your already-shared content, indemnification, liability limits, disputes) survive.
Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- yolo. is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or virus-free.
- We don't warrant that Discover suggestions are accurate, up-to-date, or safe to act on. They're suggestions. Verify.
- We don't warrant the quality, accuracy, or reliability of any booking provider, third-party content, or external link.
- We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, except where the law forbids us from doing so (e.g. the EU consumer-rights directives, certain Australian Consumer Law guarantees, etc. — these are not affected).
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- Code Op (Pty) Ltd, its directors, and its employees are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of yolo. — including loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangibles.
- For damages we are liable for, our aggregate liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of USD 100 or the amount you paid us for paid features during that period.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Code Op (Pty) Ltd, its directors, and its employees from any claim, damage, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:
- Your breach of these terms or the Community Guidelines;
- Content you posted;
- Your use of the booking flows including any dispute with a provider;
- Your infringement of any third party's rights, including IP and privacy.
Governing law & disputes
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
Forum
Disputes that can't be resolved informally are submitted to the courts of the Western Cape High Court, Cape Town, except that:
- Consumers in the EU may bring proceedings in their country of habitual residence;
- Consumers in the UK may bring proceedings in their local courts;
- For US consumers, see the App Store / Play Store override below.
Try us first
Before filing, email disputes@codeop.io with a description of the issue. We commit to responding within 30 days; most disputes resolve there.
Class action waiver
Where permitted by law, you and Code Op (Pty) Ltd agree to resolve disputes individually and not as part of a class action. This clause does not apply where it is invalid or unenforceable in your jurisdiction.
Apple App Store & Google Play
If you download yolo. from Apple's App Store:
- These terms are between you and Code Op (Pty) Ltd, not Apple.
- Apple is not responsible for yolo. or any claims about it.
- If yolo. fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (where applicable). Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
If you download yolo. from Google Play, the Google Play Developer Programme Distribution Agreement and the Play Store terms apply alongside these terms; in case of conflict over a Play-purchased subscription, Google's terms control.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes, we'll notify you in-app at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of yolo. after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you don't accept, delete your account before the date.
The legal odds & ends
- Entire agreement. These terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Community Guidelines together form the entire agreement between you and Code Op (Pty) Ltd regarding yolo.
- Severability. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce a provision in a particular instance, we haven't waived our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You can't assign your rights under these terms without our written consent. We can assign these terms in connection with a corporate transaction, with notice to you.
- Notices to you are delivered in-app or to the email on your account.
- Notices to us should go to hello@codeop.io for general matters and to disputes@codeop.io for legal disputes.
- Force majeure. Neither party is liable for failures caused by events outside reasonable control (natural disasters, cyber attacks beyond reasonable defences, government action).
- Headings in these terms are for convenience and do not affect interpretation.
